Big Boy Bike

Well....Since Aubyn get a post for a Big Bed...Trey gets a post for a Big Bike..

At the start of the hot weather I got Trey's little 12 in. bike out and took the training wheels off.  I was bound and determined this kids was going to ride this bike without his training wheels.  Oh...a mother is proved wrong again no matter how determined she is....:)  We tried on the grass, we tried on the cement, we tried on the bike trail, we tried with all our protective gear on, lets just say WE TRIED and TRIED. Trey was to scared and his bike was just toooo little for him to balance on.  So. ..Toby and I decided to get him a bigger bike.  The next week when I was in town I bought a 16in. bike at Walmart.  I took it home and surprised Trey with a red, rocket, bike. He was sooooo excited and so was mom because we were again that much closer to riding without training wheels.
Well.....Mom was wrong again. We put all our protective gear on, hit the bike trail again.  Trey could go 50 yards on his own when I was running next to him, but the minute I would stop...he would stop too.  Then we kept going...we kept trying.  He could then ride his bike straight 50 yards without me running beside him. I was so proud. BUT this kids would not try it by himself, would not let me keep the training wheels off, and let his bike sit in the garage when I refused to put them back on.  Oh...this mother was proved wrong once again.  Trey had many tears that he was never going to do it and I was still determined he was.  Well....that night we went to bed and Trey told me his feelings were very hurt because he felt bad he could not ride his bike......in turn that means MY feelings were hurt twice as bad thinking how hard I pushed him, how I was so stubborn, and how bad I felt for being hard on my little man to ride a (dumb) bike. I was Hurt....this mother was proved wrong again!!!!!   So that night I told Trey that when HE was ready we would take one wheel off his bike and let him ride that way for a while. And then when HE was ready to take two wheels off his bike we would try our best again.  BUT only when he said he was ready!!!!  That night Trey says, "momma, i'm ready to take one wheel off of my bike tomorrow."  I said, "great we will do that."
Well, this morning....while I was mopping my back room floor with the garage doors open to the garage I heard some tools clinking.  I knew it was Trey getting a training wheel off his bike with the wrench,(he knew how to do it by himself  now b/c the training wheels had been on/off about 50 times by now) but I was very quiet and did not say anything.  Then I hear him ridding around.  Not ten minutes later I hear some more clinking of a wrench...Thinking "oh great he's putting the one back on!"  BUT.......Ten minutes later Trey comes running into the back room and says "Mom, come look I have a surprise for you."  I go outside with him and he gets on his bike with only two wheels (Not four, NOT THREE) but only TWO and gets on and rides and rides like he has been riding a bike for years.  Then he says, "look mom this is EASY."  Oh, what a proud moment I had this morning.  Proved wrong again by a little five year old!  I gave him a big hug and told him how PROUD I was of him.  He was grinning from ear to ear.  Trey never ceases to amaze me and I sure hope he continues to PROVE ME WRONG!!!!! Which I know he will!
