Graham's Birth

3-20-2013

I was being induced with Graham 1 week before my due date.  I couldn't wait to get this little guy out..big, heart burn, constipated, and a fat blimp :).  Toby and I dropped off our other two kids off at my mom's house.  By the third kid you just can't keep this stuff a surprise anymore.

We arrived at the hospital at 7a.m. sharp. You know me!  We started with a little cytotec.  Contractions picked up nicely.  We walked and walked.  We had done this routine before :).  Finally they were in good rhythm and Dr. Pals wanted to break my water.  I said..."I need an epidural first.  I wasn't going to miss my epidural like I did with Aubyn!"  I got my epidural...Dr. Pals broke my water and life was good.  Contractions picked up even stronger and we were well on our way to holding our precious bundle.  The epidural was beautiful!  Toby and I sat in the labor room chatting with my good friend/co-worker Sam Zomer.  I had requested that she be my nurse and she thankfully accepted my invitation. (what is this prom?)  Better than PROM!!!!  I had worked weekends with her for many years and had gotten to be a very close friend with her.....May I add she's the best nurse OCAHS has. :).    SO...the epidural was working, my butt and legs were tingling, and I had NO pain.  After a couple hours of enjoying a great time in the labor room (that doesn't even sound right) I felt a little pressure.  Nurses know what that means....I told Sam that, "I think i'm complete, but I don't feel like pushing.  I feel to good yet...you finish your charting and I won't talk to you until your done.  When your done with your charting we will call Dr. Pals."  she agreed.  So I sat in silence (a miracle) while Sam finished charting.  Once she was done charting, She checked me and I was complete and Dr. Pals came from the clinic.  I pushed 3 times and God gave us a beautiful, healthy, baby boy....that again looked like a Boogerd. :)  We named him Graham Wayne and He is forever our little "Grammy the Pooh!"  This precious little name was inherited for Graham because this is what Aubyn always called him.  Mom stuck to it like glue..  He was my "Grammy the Pooh."

Trey called me after he got off the bus at my mom's, and Toby and I told him he had a new baby brother.  He said, "really, awwwww."  Aubyn was a little bit to little to understand how much her world was going to change.  They came to the hospital and Trey was so PROUD...and Aubyn didn't want to touch him because he was "naked."  (he still had not had a bath yet, so he was just in a diaper and blanket.)  She did not understand why this baby was naked.  All her babies at home wore cloths...why did this baby not.  HA...lesson learned mom...you just never know what little kids are going to think.  Trey held him like he was the proudest big brother of the year.  So gentle and loving just like Trey is!

Toby went home that evening to sleep in his own bed. Guess what happened when he got home.  The house was ice cold.  Our heater had gone on vacation and was never coming back.  I think it was as sick of winter as we were by March!  Toby couldn't get to the hospital very quick the next morning because he was waiting for the plumber to stop by.  The plumber finally came by and guess what....Heater Shot.  While I was in the hospital Oostra Plumbing and Heating started installing a new Furnace.  They were going to hopefully be done by the time we came home with our New family of 5!  What an expensive week :).  I remember so clearly our ride home.  We picked up Trey and Aubyn from my mom. Packed everyone in the van. The plumbers were still going to be at our house yet.  I looked over and Toby and Said..."God is sure good to us.  We have 3 beautiful, healthy, children and able to get a new Furnace and life is good."  Toby agreed!
